where oh where has my wifi gone??

brand new macbook retina. broke the bank buying it. first week fine while travelling, while it still had the old OS installed. second week back home, i install the new El Capitan and the wifi drops out every half hour. searched the internet for a fix and found one that worked for a while (adding a new location, deleting system files, rebooting blah blah blah). Now i’m travelling again and it is still impossible to join a network except my iphone personal hotspot. thoroughly unreliable and a pain in the neck. if i could go back in time i would buy the surface pro i was tempted by. awful. can i please have my old os back???

Saved my MacBook

My MacBook Pro 2011 was running so slow and constantly crashing with Yosemite. I thinking I’d have to start looking for a new computer soon. I thought I’d give El Capitan a go before I made any decisions and boy am I glad I did. Performance and speed are greatly improved with the new OS.

Trash

I downloaded El Capitan before i came up to college and boy was that a bad idea, It basically destroyed any performance i had on my laptop and forced me to use my rebot CD that came with ym computer and i had to upgrade back to Snow Leopard (which IMO is the best OS theyve ever released, maybe close to Lion) but i will never upgrade again to these free garbage OS. Although id rather not pay for an OS, its nice to know some ACTUAL work went into it rather than slowing poeples computers but making it look "pretty". All youre doing is driving customers away, and while no one from apple is going to read this, i hope other consumers follow in my footsteps so apple WILL know that we are NOT happy.

Cant download apps! HELP!

Recently upgraded my iMac with the new El Capitan update. Everything is awesome but then came to realize I am unable to download any apps from the app store. Cant update any of my current apps either. Im not sure what the problem is but its pretty frustrating. Everything else works great. Just not happy with the fact that I can’t download any new apps or programs. Anyone have the same issue? PLEASE HELP!!

Weird UI Experiences

I don’t normally write reviews, but since I upgraded to El Capitan (off the whim that most reviews were overwhelmingly positive) I felt this necessary. The experience is mediocre at best. Perhaps one of the most frustrating things I experience is more colorwheel action items (which did not present itself on my last OS), and when viewing/deleting emails, the deletion mechanism is often delayed from when I hit delete….where I see this as a problem is that there are often emails I elect to keep, and others I elect to delete. Rather than alt select them, I prefer to review then delete. What ends up happening is that the UI thinks that I am deleting too fast or something, and proceeds to move to a previously selected item, usually an email above the others (sounds weird, but trust me when I say that this did not occur on my last OS). Overall, the experience is not entirely bad, but it certainly needs improvement. Not sure if I can revert back to the older OS, but if I can, I will.

Still runs

It still runs on my MacBook Pro bought in 2010. Impressed.

Works Fine Even on My Late 2008 Macbook.

So far everything is running smoothly, from casual emulator gaming to some moderate multitasking. If it does take a few seconds to load it’s not because of the OS but the fact age is catching up with my machine. Anyhow, if it works fine on my late 2008 macbook im sure it’ll work on your computer.

After update I can not sync my iPhone and iPad with iTunes

Sync gets stuck on Photos with iTunes. Worked fine before uodating my Macbook Pro to El Capitan

Misery - a virus

Where do I start with a useless update whose sole function appears to be to cause misery and chaos? Like most Apple ‘upgrades’ this has all the aspects of a virus. It spreads from machine to machine wreaking havoc as it goes. You may argue that we are ‘willing’ transmitters of this virus, but Apple makes this update virtually mandatory as they frog march us to the next generation whether we want it or not. We purchased a couple of new Macs in the office. Since some existing machines already had El Capitan already installed; and people wanted to move to their newer models, we had to put El Capitan on the new machines. 4 of them. Scorecard: 1 iMac installed without hitch, one Mac Mini took two days and was a total nightmare, 1 iMac never installed, and screwed up the disk in the process and is now back at Apple where we expect its replacement in “a week or 2”. The 4th was my new MacBook Pro that finally installed after 2 agonising days but now crashes several times a day. Worst of all was the case of one staff member who moved from his Mac Mini to my “Old” MacBook which was running Yosemite (I not wanting to face the nightmare of an upgrade of dubious usefullness). Now oddly enough I used MY Apple ID on MY laptop, now he wants to use HIS Apple ID on HIS ‘new’ laptop. Yes in it’s infinite wisdom Apple does not permit an upgrade on a different Apple ID. Words cannot express my disgust at this insane policy (am I the first person to sell/transfer his Mac?) We are told he will have to do a fresh install; but of course the new Macs don’t come with installation media so it is off to a dodgy download. This is all pissing into the wind, as you cannot, ultimately, choose NOT to upgrade, and there is no hope of Apple actually listening to those of us on the ground (I a devoted Apple user since 1982) with practical problems with no obvious solutions and terrrible terrible terrible customer support but in the final analysis I hope someone there has enough nous to recognise that the terrible rating of this OS on their own store is indicative not just of the software itself but the deep frustrations they perpetrate on us in trying to be good Apple users. -gordon

Rainbow wheel of doom; computer sluggish overall

Never had an issue with any of the OS X updates until this one. Running on an ’05-’06 MBP and programs take significantly more time to start and load. Will frequently experience the lovely rainbow wheel. It to the point where I need to set aside an extra hour just to get a mobile phone to connect with the computer, only to have the program crash on me again and again.

the only thing which has refined is my anger about Apple Inc.

Sorry, but after weeks of testing Yosemite and El Capitan, I come to the conclusion that these OS have become nothing more than playgrounds for programming iKids who try deliberately to kill the productivity, reliability and usability which was once a leading standard in times when Snow Leo (for those who werent born at this time: its Mac OS X 10.6.8) for the creative and innoviative community of Apple users. Since then, Apple Inc. has forced its customers using MacPro, MacBook and MacBook Pro machines to adapt to the look and superficial functionality of a communication device, like the iPhone, which is - in fact - a good device for communication. But this is stil the worst case for those who need to work fast, reliable, productive, creative and innovative on Apple machines (as it was before). - Well, as long as you are accustomed to play around (not REALLY being PRODUCTIVE), more on the communicative side, spooling down your WhatsUp and Twitter blah blah, you may not understand what Im trying to exlain. The others of us, who dont like to waste their time for being misused as Beta-testers and being involved in endlessly looking the spinning wheel of colorful death, may already know what Im talking about. - But there is still a solution (well, a painful one for Apple): Sooner or later, governments will crack down on encryption and will get broad access to all kind of data which is actually transferred, collected and used on Apple servers (and other Big Data Companies) ... then, the people will realize that privacy is something which should be kept locally, not in the Cloud ... But this upcoming painful period may lead to the insight, that Apple users should HAVE A CHOICE, means, to keep their workspace and data on their own machine, running apps without spying and grabbing away personal data, but being very reliable, productive and working like a charm, as it was in times of look & feel (not hide & search), just old-school apps like iLife 11, iWork 09 and so on, while on the other hand these Apple users may DECIDE BY THEMSELVES (e.g. clicking a button) whether to surrender their data (or results of productive work) to the Cloud (i.e. whereever those servers may be installed, like Wash. DC, Bruxelles or Peking, and being under suspicious scrutiny of governments ...o:) - To say it briefly: SEPARATE the product lines: ONE line optimized for the old-school creativity, ONE line for the flippy-hippy communicative kids and ONE line for those who want to spread their data and results via the web to others (as a gift for the governments which want to know who might become the next danger for the system ... ;) - Greetings and my best wishes! -Gisela

An Error Has Occured, wont download update

It just says an error has occured and does not download, now I cant download newer apps becuase I need this first, great. Time to get a PC.

Waiting for another try

I have been quite let down by Apple as of late. They seem to be leaving the professionals behind and not listening to their Mac users. On top of that they seem to care far more about looks then they do functionality. Please spend more time making things right. When I upgraded to to El Capitan I started getting screen flickering on my Retina MacBook Pro. I am back to Yoesemite now to reslove the issue. I miss Snow Leopard. They were doing it right back in the day. Hopefully they will listen to the unhappy half of their customers.

Whats Going On?

I have a late 2011 iMac desktop but when I try to upgrade Safari I get a strange message. It says INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE. Thats it! There is no explanation about what this means or why I receive this message. Its frustrating. Im not sure what to do, but maybe customer support can help me out.

smooth and easy

i have a macbook air13 inch. Been using maverick before but never update to the newer OS till El Capitan. the updates takes some times, but really easy, just follow through. no glitch, no error, no nothing. after the upgrade my mac seems a bit faster than before, have no crash issues, and the internet also is good. Love the system now and glad that i update.

Wrecks Everything, but saves space

My hard drive went up by 10+ Gigs which was nice. But then when I tried to print it recognized my printer as usual but the print queue gave me an error saying I need to upgrade my driver with the vendor. Of course, my vendor has no updated software this new OS. What the heck is the point of that Apple? So now I can’t print. Otherwise I’ve noticed some weird bugs with software like Crome, a window is stuck at full screen after watching a video. There’s still no way to share files from Finder to Microsoft Outlook, but other apps are present, useless. Various other apps show weird behaviors. The sound card is better at switching from Airplay devices to internal speakers. The previous versions would lock up the sound card every time it switched more than once and I had to reset the sound card process, now it seems to cancel it’s connection attempt after some time. The printer suddenly not working when it clearly recognizes the printer and can even get it’s status really drives me up a wall.
