Downloaded with trepidation: Very Impressed! Excellent OS
I have a mid 2009 MBP, 17 inch with a 500 HD (not SSD) and 8GB RAM. I was using OS 10.8 and my computer was starting to get alittle sluggish-still very usable however. I was also slowly starting to get somwwhat low on available hard disk space, with 55 GB left.. I had been keeping an eye on El Cap as different versions were released, being in no rush to even consider an upgrade. What held me back was a concern with how my aging computer would handle the new OS, and also the tepid reviews it was getting here: there were quite a number of negative reviews and horror stories. I recently saw that 10.11.4 seemed to have pretty solid reviews and decided to plunge in: I AM GLAD I DID!! The install went very smoothly-it took awhile: 30-40 minutes to download and 45-50 min to install. No problems. Following installation Photos took along time to process my iPhoto library and convert into a photos library-probably 1-1.5 hours. I can definitely say that my mid-2009 MBP is much snappier than it was with 10.8. No issues so far with any of my apps including MS Word. One surprising thing was that after the install by available HD space was substantially increased: from 55 GB to 113 GB free now. I’m not sure how that occurred but obviously its great to have the extra space. I had planned on putting in a 1TB SSD internal drive to speed things up, but will hold off for now to continue to see how my MBP performs first. Overall my impressions on day 1 are VERY POSITIVE.
